TN Visa Lawyers in Ottawa

Did you know there is a special type of work visa for the United States that is available just for Canadian citizens and citizens of Mexico? This work visa is called a TN visa, and it is available if you’ve got a job offer in the the United States under a certain type of occupational category. A Canadian can apply for a TN visa at the US-Canada border and be approved immediately. However, just because this visa doesn’t have the same lengthy processing times as other visas don’t be fooled – it is not an easy visa to get. You may need help.

Work in the United States as a Canadian citizen with a TN Visa

When someone applies for a TN visa, they must demonstrate that their job appears under Chapter 15, Schedule 2 of the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA. This list of jobs includes professional occupations that require high levels of skills and education, like scientists, doctors and lawyers. If this is true and you are a Canadian citizen, you’re almost halfway there!

Other required pieces of documentation include:

Proof of your work history or education (diplomas, degrees, licenses, certificates etc.) that demonstrates you are qualified for the job you’ve been offered.

A properly formatted job offer letter from your US employer that describes the nature of the job, length of employment and the salary you will be paid.

Reference letters from previous employers if applicable and an up-to-date and properly formatted resume.
